Souvenirs are keepsakes, mementos or tokens of remembrance people keep for the memories it brings back. Souvenirs are connected with holiday gift shopping, but the word is actually a French word which means “remembrance or memory”. Travel is an experience we all love. Travel enthusiasts usually love to take a little something back home from their tours and trips, to show where they have been and to use as a reminder of the wonderful experiences they had during their holiday.

Tourists also tend to shop for a lot of gifts and little items not only for themselves but also for their near and dear ones as an expression of their love and affection. After all, it is one of the best ways to convey that we have been thinking of them and have missed them while we were away on our vacation.

There are a lot of us who just can not resist buying a thing or two after walking into a gift shop especially if we are on a holiday somewhere away from home. A lot of times, we start off window shopping but end up purchasing a lot of things for ourselves and others. Some might call it a waste of money, but what holiday is complete without buying those little attractions off the shelves of the local markets in the places we have been to?? It’s a part and parcel of the fun holiday experience I would say!

Different parts of the world have different versions of souvenirs, for example, marble replicas of TajMahal from Agra, Eiffel tower souvenirs from Paris, the red Routemaster bus from London, Kangaroo keychains and toys from Australia , etc. collecting unique items from around the world is a wonderful way to commemorate your experiences and adventures or those special feeling you hold for all the different places you have been to.

A souvenir might not always be something that we purchase off the local markets, it can also be something that we collect from different places such as sea shells, pine cones, pressed leaves, flowers etc., which are great ideas for a personal keepsake and look spectacular when displayed in glass vases, jars and photo frames.

A souvenir can be any object that is collected or purchased and transported home by the traveler as a memento of a visit. The object itself may have intrinsic value, or be a symbol of experience but without the owner’s input, the symbolic meaning is invisible and cannot be articulated.
